OUR DOG ŽERYK
Our beloved dog, Žeryk, carved by Gustav Nosek, first appeared on stage alongside Mánička in 1930 in Hurvínek’s Spring Revue (Hurvínkovy jarní revue). A dog with the same name had already been featured in an earlier production in 1928, and was most likely inspired by “Jerry”, the canine hero from Jack London’s novel, Jerry of the Islands. Over the decades, Žeryk has been voiced and manipulated by several puppeteers, continuing to charm audiences as the loyal canine companion of Spejbl and Hurvínek.
