HURVÍNEK – The birthday boy
Hurvínek was initially carved by Gustav Nosek and first appeared on May 2, 1926, in Plzeň as a surprise for Professor Josef Skupa. Originally conceived as a friend of Spejbl, he quickly became known as his son – a concept embraced by audiences. Over the decades, Hurvínek has been interpreted by Josef Skupa, Miloš Kirschner, Martin Klásek, Ondřej Lážnovský and Martin Trecha. His puppeteers have included Ludva Novák, Táňa Rozmarová, Jiřina Skupová, Bohuslav Šulc and Michal Barták. Traditionally, the puppet characters have been manipulated by their own interpreters during the performances.
