BEHIND THE THEATRE CURTAIN – part 1
Spejbl first appeared on stage in 1920 and soon found his lifelong stage partner in Hurvínek (born May 2, 1926). In 1930, Professor Josef Skupa founded the first professional puppet theatre in the country. That same year, Mánička and Žeryk joined the ensemble; Mrs. Kateřina (Nana) followed in 1971. The theatre also planned a collaboration with Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich in a puppet production entitled Vest Pocket Revue, however the project was cancelled due to high entertainment fees imposed on puppet performances at that time.
