Spejbl celebrated his 100th birthday in 2020, though the festivities were quite modest due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions – a situation he understood well, having begun his theatre career in 1920 during the final phase of the Spanish flu epidemic.
Hurvínek’s 100th birthday is marked with an array of festive activities: the opening of the newly renovated theatre space including new auditorium seating; a new studio for workshops, courses and performances; a new customer service centre with a gift shop; and a new visual identity and website. The celebrations will also feature five new productions over the course of the year, ranging from shows for toddlers to cabarets and fairytale adventures.
