BEHIND THE THEATRE CURTAIN – part 4
Miloš Kirschner passed away in 1996, and Martin Klásek became the third principal interpreter of Spejbl and Hurvínek, while Helena Štáchová took over as director of the theatre. A new creative team began developing modern productions and new adventures for the company of characters. In 2013, Spejbl and Hurvínek received the Thalia Award for their contribution to Czech puppetry. In 2016, Czech and Slovak puppetry was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

After Helena Štachová’s passing in 2017, and Martin Klásek’s subsequent retirement, new interpreters gradually took over the roles. Today, the characters are performed by Jana Mudráková and Martin Trecha. Since February 24, 1995, the theatre has been based in Dejvice, Prague, where it has continued its tradition for more than thirty years.
